who is this guy?

I’m Sean, nice to meet you! I graduated in 2021 with a dual degree in Linguistics and Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I’m a retired competitive programmer, theoryhead, and am interested in historical linguistics. I’m always trying new things – I used to speedcube (here’s my WCA profile).

I am currently a software engineer at Optiver Δ in Chicago after doing a summer internship in ‘24. Separately, I’m currently working with Professor Tandy Warnow in the CPHL group at the University of Illinois to develop better algorithms to infer language family trees.

I’m a bilingual native speaker in both Mandarin Chinese and English, and can hold a conversation in Japanese; I’ve also taken a semester of Hittite from the wonderful Prof. Shosted at UIUC.
